Population counts, screened price moves, gem rates and grading costs come from our own pulls, and the formulas behind them are written out on the methodology page so you can check the arithmetic instead of taking our word for it.
The market column keeps a public scorecard of its own calls, including the ones that went wrong. That is the part most card writing leaves out.
